Family Learning & Support Services
Program Description
The ATCAA Family Learning & Support Services program offers a variety of classes and services including English language instruction, Adult Basic Education and GED preparation classes, job and life skills development, parenting and health education classes, child care referrals, Family Advocate and home visiting services, and information & referral. Additional supportive services include transportation to onsite classes as well as assistance with access to medical, dental, and mental health services.
The Family Learning & Support Services program places a strong emphasis on educating parents so they, in turn, can be effective teachers of their children. The curriculum is designed to improve participants’ capacities as parents, citizens, and workers. In 2011, the Family Learning & Support Services program provided classes for an average of 64 adults and 42 children each quarter.
The Family Learning & Support services program is sustained through funding sources such as grants, foundations, and donations from individuals, businesses, and community groups. Examples are First 5 Tuolumne, the S.H. Cowell Foundation, and the Tuolumne County Department of Social Services.
